Like peanut butter and jelly — Stand up paddleboarding and Yoga goes well together.

Paddle Diva is proud to be a leader in the field of SUP instruction. This spring, we will continue to offer certification and training through the Academy of Surf Instructors (ASI) — the world’s leading stand up paddle accreditation and training organization.

During the weekend of May 31 — June 1, 2014, Jessica Bellofatto and I will co-lead our bi-annual SUP Yoga Teacher Training. The 20-hour SUP Yoga teacher certification course covers stand up paddling techniques, beginner to advanced SUP Yoga sequences and water safety protocol.

We also love teaching this course because it offers a hands-on approach to building and promoting your own SUP Yoga business. Participants learn the inner workings of setting up the business, purchasing SUP Yoga boards and marketing. We cover a broad overview of yoga board purchases and do not promote or push any specific products. After completing this training seminar, many of our alumni have started their own businesses.

Paula, owner of the The Giving Room, is one of our SUP Yoga teacher training certification success stories. After taking the course, she gained the skills and the knowledge to run her own business in Southold, Long Island.

After the training Paula wrote to Jessica and I saying, “I am so full of gratitude for this past weekend. The experience helped to rekindle my determination to work hard and nurture my practice. I have been on a journey to find my spiritual apex through yoga, while creating a sustainable business. This goal often seems like an impossible dream. You set an example of what is possible and gave me renewed hope.”

Denizzie Kearns, an instructor for the Hamptons Yoga Healing Arts, located in West Hampton Beach, joined us for the very first SUP Yoga Teacher training.  We love and respect Denizzie for continuing to teach yoga to help an individual’s physical, psychological and spiritual healing process.

Overall, the SUP Yoga training offers an excellent way to become a certified teacher for this thriving sport. It’s also positive experience for women wanting to deepen their practice of yoga by taking it to the water.

For me, training others is always inspiring and rejuvenating. The SUP Yoga Teacher training always gets me ready for a stand up summer!
